Hawaiian antiquities Moolelo Hawaii Davida Malo Nathaniel Bright Emerson 9781520998336 Books
This is a fascinating book. It was written by David Malo, a native Hawaiian who was born in the late 1700's, grew up under the traditional culture, then later converted to Christianity. He has recorded what he remembers of the daily life of the ancient Hawaiians, their beliefs, customs and religion, so it is an almost unique record of the old Hawaiian culture. There are a lot of editorial remarks about how "This was the way things were done before we knew the light of the Lord," etc., but these can be overlooked. A must-read if you are interested in pre-missionary Hawaii, free of anthropological interpretations.Product details

Hawaiian antiquities Moolelo Hawaii Davida Malo Nathaniel Bright Emerson 9781520998336 Books Reviews
excellent reading and resource!
Exactly what I wanted.
A great cultural resource to have.
The book is essential reading for those very interested in Hawai'i before first contact.
Great party gift.
The print in the copy of this book is blurred and hardly legible. This might be a cheaper copy, but worth paying a bit more for a copy that's easier to read. My guess is the 5 start reviews are frauds.
I love this book! I'm so glad that I bought it. Plus, the awesome thing was that I ordered it in the early afternoon of one day and the next morning it was at my doorstep. I am so pleased for a couple reasons, 1- I was able to learn much about the birthing practices in old hawaii, and 2-it is rich with other exciting information. I never realized I'd be so thrilled to learn about history.
